Original oil paintings Central Park New York Autumn by Karen Tarlton

I have two brand new New York paintings inspired by Central Park from my last visit a month ago.
We stay fairly close to the park and my husband is a marathon runner, so while he goes for miles
and miles, I run/walk/jog stop to sketch and photograph
this amazing place.
Yes I like the Gapstow Bridge area best!
And here are my creations.
I hope you enjoy!

Original oil painting New York Summer Night Inspiration by Karen Tarlton

12x16
New York Summer Night Inspiration
Oil

This one is shipping off to a gallery!

We just recently got back home to D.C. from our weekend in New York
and it was amazing!
The most emotional part for us was the trip to ground zero which is now one
of the great wonders of our world; the new One Trade Center building, Two waterfall memorials built in the footprints of the two buildings, and the museum.

There museum there is so impressive and awesome - so
inspirational, just like the people of New York.

Both of these were painted last week before Hurricane Sandy hit the east coast.
I actually painted them before we even new about the storm
 must have had a feeling.
I hope all my friends are doing alright. Some I still haven't heard from which is worrisome.
Weather is so powerful.
Reminding us about all the important stuff.

Brand new work....just dry.
I'm working on a new Times Square commission that's really large! 30x34 but this one was a good warm up for it. A similar feeling of energy and the buzz of busy Times Square. Always an inspiration!

Big drags of rich oil and riotous color!  This cityscape is a bit avant-garde and I describe it's style as abstract expressive impressionism! I like to capture the reflective dynamics of color as a moment in time unfolds. I also love to paint NY in bold color and here I use pure pigment, straight from the tube and quite a lot of it, to bring this scene to life!

New York Rain fine art in oil by Karen Tarlton

Art is... a question mark in the minds of those who want to know what's happening. ~Aaron Howard

What a fantastic place NY is. I used to go every summer for the last 15 years but missed last summer since we are now on the west coast.  I miss it.  I miss the bustle and the energy you feel just walking down the street.  I love running in Central Park and going to a Broadway show.  I paint it rainy because there is such a glow after a fresh rain and a sense of renewal.  Mainly I love the color!

I do love painting rainy scenes.  I see rain as cleansing, renewing and as bringing forth a recharging of the spirit!  What do you see I wonder.

I don't really know where the time goes!  I haven't had time to visit my favorite city in a few years.  When we lived east coast we would go every summer at least once.  I guess I'm missing it so this one is from the heart!

Colors of Times Square NY

A tiny little 6 x 6 Abstract Equine painting! Available on Etsy as part of a new summer sale and tiny painting series!

Title: Colors of Times Square NY

Size: 18 x 24

Medium: oil on stretched canvas

THE PAINTING:

One of my favorite places and scenes to paint. Blurry because this is the way I see at night, poor night vision, and because I love thickly textured, and slightly abstract images. It's modern and colorful and full of life like Times Square, its inspiration.

Going on eBay auction but will be available on Etsy too, if you would rather buy it now!

Working on some abstracts too.....I'll post when I get a few more completed! I've been thinking about my love of abstract. I think some of it is that it really is pure emotion. I have two teenage daughters and I think painting is helping me vent....painting therapy!

Thanks for checking in!

New York End of the Day

One of the great memories of New York. We rode our bikes all over Central Park and at the end of the day, as the carriages were heading home for the night, I snapped this photo which inspired the painting.
Title: New York End of the Day
Size: 20 x 24
Medium: oil on stretched canvas
PAINTING:
Manhattan is always an inspiration and this painting was recently finished after my last trip a few weeks ago. I used knife and brush and a lot of texture and broken color so it glows with many layers of rich oil color. One of my favorite NY scenes!
FAMILY AND THE FOURTH:
Posting from Colorado and having a great time. Tomorrow night we should be in VEGAS! Thanks for bearing with me through this move, we're almost there!
Having a wonderful 4th full of great meals and family. I hope you all have a wonderful holiday too!

Running Wild

I didn't have a functioning laptop in New York this weekend so here is my first post from the long weekend! I'm exhausted but had a blast in the city. Here are a couple snapshots of my favorite carriages and one of Times Square. So much fun and so much to see!
We saw Jersey Boys which I highly recommend and my whole family loved and road bikes all over Central Park so I have so many great photos and wonderful memories. We were lucky and the weather was perfect! How often does that happen?

Title: Bellagio Italy Twilight
Size: 16 x 20
Medium: oil on canvas One of my favorite Bellagio oil paintings and it's on eBay now for a steal and no reserve. I love this place so it's another one that is fun to paint with lots of texture and color. It's painterly, romantic and wonderful!

SOLD
Title: Running Wild
Size: 20 x 24

Energy, movement and the power of these great animals. My palette knife was the driving force behind this one and a lot of thick paint. Strong color and strength in this piece!

Faces of the City, Manhattan Reflections

Title: Faces of the City
Size: 16 x 20
Medium: oil on stretched canvas
Going on auction tonight!
PAINTING: Inspired of course by my frequent visits to the "city"...I love it and am getting psyched about going back in a few weeks for a little visit. There is no place like it and I love to paint it in bright colors and rich textures with the rich buttery oils and my knife. The thick paint captures the energy and buzz of Manhattan.

ABOUT THE PAINTING: Living here in Arlington we are only a short drive to New York and like to take weekend trips a few times a year.
