New York Rain fine art in oil by Karen Tarlton

16x20
Late Night New York Rain
Oil

Art is... a question mark in the minds of those who want to know what's happening. ~Aaron Howard

What a fantastic place NY is. I used to go every summer for the last 15 years but missed last summer since we are now on the west coast.  I miss it.  I miss the bustle and the energy you feel just walking down the street.  I love running in Central Park and going to a Broadway show.  I paint it rainy because there is such a glow after a fresh rain and a sense of renewal.  Mainly I love the color!

Late Night New York City Rain - Original oil painting by Karen Tarlton

Late Night NYC Rain
12x16
Oil

SOLD
I do love painting rainy scenes.  I see rain as cleansing, renewing and as bringing forth a recharging of the spirit!  What do you see I wonder.

Midnight Rush Times Square

SOLD
Title: Midnight Rush Times Square
Size: 20 x 24
Medium: Oil on stretched canvas
Goes on eBay auction tonight!

ABOUT THE PAINTING:
Whenever I am about to go somewhere or wishing I was somewhere, I have the urge to paint it. I'm planning a weekend trip in Manhattan in May and already I'm ready to go! This painting is fantastic with texture and broken color and makes quite a showpiece. I used many layers of paint with a brush at first and then a palette knife and this technique takes quite a while and goes through a lot of paint! I would love to put it in one of my galleries but I always love offering my favorites to you all as often as possible. I'll be showing in a new gallery in New Orleans soon so that should be exciting!

Times Square, New York Rain

This one already SOLD....before it was all the dry!

Title: Times Square, New York Rain
Size: 24 x 30
Medium: Oil on stretched canvas

Last night and all day yesterday we had a huge blizzard and I was watching the snow fall while painting a series of NY paintings and I had a wonderful time. I had classical Christmas music playing, my daughters baking cookies and memories of my last NY trip in my head. I love NY and love to paint scenes from this city. This is the largest of them all and it is specifically....Times Square. I used a lot of oil with my favorite palette knife and so it has a lot of wonderful texture and broken color. I don't paint this large very often, but once in a while it is a joy, especially when it is NY!

New York Evening Rain

Title: New York Evening Rain
Size: 16 x 20
Medium: Oil on gallery wrapped canvas

This painting is sold but you may email me for a commission.

PAINTING AND INSPIRATION:
I began this composition slowly from some old photos of my last trip. I love NY and miss it already. I love the people, and the glow this place takes on at night. I used lots of expressive brush work with lovely mixes of color in the background so that the yellow taxis would really stand out and the girl in the red dress would become a focal point. I painted myself with my little dog Maggie..do you see? I have had some requests for more NY paintings and I promise after the holidays to work on some more of these.

Times Square Cabs at Night

Title: Times Square Cabs at Night
Size: 24 x 30
Medium: Oil on gallery wrapped canvas

See eBay auction tonight for purchase. Because of the time a large cityscape takes, I don't paint a scene like this for eBay very often. I don't expect this one to last long!
SOLD!!!

PAINTING:
This painting is touchably textured and layered with deep oil color. I applied an abstract underpainting and the city began to emerge. I began sculpting with extreme color and texture, brighter than reality, to capture the intense energy of Times Square and create this distinct 3-dimensional effect.
INSPIRATION:
My inspiration often comes from my favorite places I travel to and NY is one of the most inspirational. I hope to offer you an escape from reality and make you smile with this painting. It was a blast to create!
