I use a restricted palette on this lovely horse portrait.
Avoiding too many colors, I try to romance each color I do use by
learning its nuance and playing with its chroma value and placement,
for a bit of simplicity and simple elegance.
My intent with this horse painting is to draw emotion
Horses are amazing animals
and remind us to be kind, generous and live each day to the fullest.

Two brand new 6x6 inch paintings!
These look great in a grouping or in any small space.
I saw another a hummingbird today while I was trimming the salvia plant our new garden that has grown unruly. Always a good omen a hummingbird. I hesitated cutting the blossoms because the bird loves them but the bush was too large.
I bought tomatoes, strawberries, peas, peppers, a bunch of herbs and even a rasberry plant and I'll take some photos when I get them in the ground tomorrow.
I'm so excited about finally having a a spot to grow some vegies!

Painted in honor of our daughter's 18th birthday today! This one reminds me of her and is symbolic on many levels. She is a beautiful young woman and has a soaring and colorful spirit. She just found out she got an academic scholorship to an excellent university in SD and we are so excited for her. Just as this wild horse seems to almost lift off in flight, she will soon be moving on to her new life and I can't even begin to say how proud I am of her and how heart wrenching it is at the same time to know the child stage of my parenting is successfully complete! She may be all grown up but she will always be my baby girl!
I love this painting's soul and youthful energy....I hope you enjoy it too!

It's all about texture, color, and motion......I didn't intend to paint this, he just emerged off the canvas while listening to some baroch classical music. I started with an abstract and shapes began to evolve as I pulled and scraped the buttery oils with my knife across the canvas.

These horses come to life with brilliant color and texture. I used all my favorite teals, reds and golds with many layers of thick oil. I have long been interested in patterns of color and love the way the oil moves with a palette knife, like rich butter, visceral and deep. Though this work is fairly abstract, I wanted this painting to be believable, so ou can feel the movement of the animals and their strength. Three seems to be a great number for almost any piece.
I hope you enjoy this and it reminds you to really feel "the wind in your hair"!
