Sailing paintings by Karen Tarlton original oil water and sky palette knife fine art impressionism

If I create from the heart, nearly everything works; if from the head, almost nothing.

Living here near the beach in San Diego is ever inspiring.
These little gems painted at last light make unique gifts for the water/sky lover

Original oil painting Sunrise Sailing Landscape by Karen Tarlton

For most people, we often marvel at the beauty of a sunrise or the magnificence of a full moon, but it is impossible to fathom the magnitude of the universe that surrounds us.
Enjoy this colorful weekend!

Original oil painting Breezy Sailing by Karen Tarlton

I've lived at the beach or near it many times in my life.
San Diego, Manhattan Beach, Fort Walton Beach, and probably
a couple other places I can't remember.
But I do remember the feel of the cool breeze in my hair, the salty fresh smell from the pier
and the sailboats on the horizon.

I'm listing some new smaller works, while also trying to complete a few larger
paintings to list this month.
2013 is here with a roar!
It seems like time soars by so quickly lately.
I'm enjoying painting colorful animals this month
with whimsy and impressionistic charm.

Evening Sailing Original oil painting by Karen Tarlton

We rode our bikes to the beach today to watch the volleyball open. Such amazing athletes.
Inspiring and so much fun to watch. The beach was beautiful too. Lots of swimmers, paddle boarders and boats. More ocean works to come for sure!

My favorite color combinations used in this one.

Sailing Through the Pines - Original oil painting by Karen

20x24
Sailing Through the Pines
Oil

Painted from my memory and my imagination with lots of texture and layers of rich color! Love this place where I grew up so every once in awhile I love painting it in beautiful colors. Maybe my childhood memories are more vivid than life but I see it always in jewel tones of sunset, emerald green and sapphire blue!

Sailing Beyond the Wildflowers

I'm totally allergic to cats but for some reason everywhere we live, and we move every few years, cats find me. This one belongs to my neighbor but he comes on in and hangs out with me while I paint everyday, for the last 3 months or so. I swear he is the reincarnation of a cat I had a few years ago. He's not at all afraid of our dog, in fact Maggie is a little scared of him, and just makes himself at home. I'm taking allergy pills again I guess.....he's my muse.

A tranquil little landscape in rich thick oil with palette knife and brush. Vivid blues and greens reminds me of Scotland.

Sailing Through the Pines Tahoe Sunset

Title: Sailing Through the Pines at Sundown
Size: 20 x 24
Oil
Brrrr....baby it's cold outside! I'm thankful right now we are in warm Las Vegas, where it is plenty cold for me. My husband just returned from DC and said it was 10 below with windchill and I am happy not to be there this winter.
I get a nice warm cup of coffee in the morning and start painting to the morning light that streams in the windows of my studio. This one was painted from memory and my imagination. I grew up in a small town near tahoe so basically grew up on this lake and I think to this day it is one of the most beautiful places in the world. When I was a little girl we used to go out on the boat and the water was so pure and blue you could see down into the depths a long long way....so beautiful. This piece has lots of my signature palette knife texture and I hope it inspires you in some way.
Thanks for checking in....stay warm and give someone a hug today!
