So I'm going to start some new paintings this week that I hope bring a sense of peace and serenity to to our chaotic and sometimes very stressful world. Remember that eventually we will be back to calm.

Lake Tahoe always inspires me.
I grew up there and if you haven't seen it, it's worth the trip.
I would say it's the prettiest Lake in the world but then I might be biased.
They don't call Emerald Bay, "emerald" for nothing though!

Painted from my memory and my imagination with lots of texture and layers of rich color! Love this place where I grew up so every once in awhile I love painting it in beautiful colors. Maybe my childhood memories are more vivid than life but I see it always in jewel tones of sunset, emerald green and sapphire blue!

Brrrr....baby it's cold outside! I'm thankful right now we are in warm Las Vegas, where it is plenty cold for me. My husband just returned from DC and said it was 10 below with windchill and I am happy not to be there this winter.
I get a nice warm cup of coffee in the morning and start painting to the morning light that streams in the windows of my studio. This one was painted from memory and my imagination. I grew up in a small town near tahoe so basically grew up on this lake and I think to this day it is one of the most beautiful places in the world. When I was a little girl we used to go out on the boat and the water was so pure and blue you could see down into the depths a long long way....so beautiful. This piece has lots of my signature palette knife texture and I hope it inspires you in some way.

ABOUT THE PAINTING:
I grew up in Tahoe and this really is a beautiful place. Many of my friends there love to sail and I love to paint them doing it. This painting has a lot of interesting textures so I hope you click in and see some close ups. It's thick where it needs to be and very colorful. Hope you enjoy!

I used many layers of artist top grade quality oil on this sweet little painting. It is painted in my plein air style with expressive brush and a bit of knife work, and as typical of me, I like to push the color!
INSPIRATION:
I am painting many smaller paintings now because I am moving many works into a local gallery next month and need many different sized paintings to show. I also need more Tahoe and California paintings for the gallery opening show, so I will keep doing a few more of these, my favorites, partly because they are scenes from where I grew up, but also because I just love landscapes with water and especially a sailboat sailing through the trees!

PAINTING:
This oil has many layers of thick color applied with palette knife and took a very long time to finally complete. I have a lot of beautiful broken colors in this piece and even the pines have many layers of multiple colors in bark and backlit sky.
INSPIRATION:
I grew up in Tahoe and have to say I took its beauty for granted as kids will do, but remember it vividly. When I visit it brings tears to my eyes, it really is that awsome. This lake is very deep, and very clear blue and icy cold! We would swim until we were blue and then roll in the warm sand all summer long.

Lake Tahoe, CA
I stood in front of my eisel today with my mind set on creating a placid and peaceful Dominican Republic beach scene. I recently stayed at the Sun Village Resort on the island, and had thought this is where the experience would take me in my work.
However, during my stay at this relaxing resort, my young teenage daughters had been on their second visit to California without me. They had been camping in the Sierras at a U.C. Alumni camp called "The Lair of the Bear" near Lake Tahoe. Thinking of their stay, my beach scene was slowly transformed into a common view in the area - Lake Tahoe.
I grew up in small town on the Truckee River called Floriston. It was about 10 minutes from Truckee and 20 minutes from Tahoe City. This drew my family to Lake Tahoe constantly, like the sun to the horizon. We would go boating, swimming, and fishing on the water; all the while burning under the California sun.
I remember swimming in the ice-cold water with my younger brother and friends until my lips were blue and my teeth were chattering! We would run to the hot sand and roll in it (corn-dogging) to get warm again.
This bright, summer lake scene will be available for auction in about one week.
