Lake Como Italy Reflections painting by Karen Tarlton fine art impressionism

I have a smaller (study) version of this one as well.
This place is lovely and so it deserves a large version.

Lake Como Italy Reflections by Karen Tarlton

Lake Como Reflection
 20x24
Oil
SOLD

Love this place, Lake Como. It's so inspiring.
Until I can go back I am painting it every once in awhile and then at least I'm there in my mind for awhile!

I went in search of a special place---Italy...... I have long held in my mind's eye.

It's a place I can be instantly a part of and feel part of the timeless beauty.

A place that would quench my thirst for shuttered windows, Olive trees and Sunflowers,  and magical waters.

More to come!

"What is possible in art becomes thinkable in life." ~ Brian Eno
Title: Lake Como Reflections
Size: 20 x 24
Oil
SOLD
One of my favorite paintiings! I've painted this exact spot dozens of times and never get tired of dreaming about it. When I look back at my photos of my trips to Europe, always the most colorful art my Italy snapshots. It is full of sunshine and olive oil! Brilliant blues with the sun playing off the water make a great palette. Thick palette knife work and texture ....I hope you enjoy a bit of Sunshine in November!

Lake Como Italy Reflections

Whenever I wish I were there...I paint another Lake Como scene. Bellagio is the most wonderful little lake town...just utopia.

Title: Lake Como Italy Reflections
Size: 9 x 12
Medium: oil on stretched canvas
SOLD
THE PAINTING:
One of my favorite scenes....a secret little cove off the beaten bath of tourists that I found while hiking around the lake in Bellagio. It's quiet and beautiful with still boats and reflective sunlit color. I painted it extra thick and smaller for my collectors that are running out of room for more paintings! It's so small it can even go on a table top easle, or can be framed for more impact!

Italy Lake Como Flowers

Title: Italy Lake Como Flowers
Size: 20 x 24
Medium: Oil on stretched canvas
PAINTING:
This painting is rich and textural and has many layers of paint. I love visiting this gorgeous place and when I paint Lake Como I recall many great memories. Love the pops of vivid sunny color!
This new painting will go on auction tomorrow night.
TONIGHT:
We are still amongst boxes and much still needs to be packed up so stress level is high around here. I'm actually blogging in the middle of the night here because I just can't sleep. Maybe tomorrow we will make better progress. I'll try to keep posting this week but it may get more and more difficult during this move! Thanks for checking in!

Sierra Mountain Lake Sailing

A close up some of the mountain texture.

Title: Sierra Mountain Lake Sailing

Size: 16 x 20

Medium: oil on stretched canvas

ABOUT THE PAINTING:

I'm in love with this painting partly because it reminds me of home, and there is just something about a little boat sailing through the pines that moves me. I hope you check out some of the other incredible close ups on eBay to see the texture, especially in the mountains. You will want to reach out and touch the bumpy nooks and crannies of the many dried layers of oils. It is sealed with a medium and very durable so a little touching won't hurt it. My paintings will last hundreds and hundreds of years. Long after I'm gone I hope they are still enjoyed by some of my collector's grandchildren and stay part of your families.

Thanks!

Lake Como Italy Reflections

Title: Lake Como Italy Reflections
Size: 20 x 24
Medium: oil on stretched canvas

THE PAINTING AND THE INSPIRATION:
We had so much snow today, I had to paint something warm and sunny. Vibrant hues, this new original oil is rich, thick and colorful. Painted with extremely thick Winsor Newton Artist oils and a knife. I can't explain how beautiful this place is and my trip there last summer inspires me still. Sometimes I sit and look at some of my photographs...below is one from the lake... and wonder how dull they are compared to the vivid, brilliant colors I remember. Photos never capture the true colors and always seem dark and grey, and this is one of the reasons I love to paint. It helps me relive the moment and hopefully brings beauty and joy to someone who experienced or wants to experience something similiar. I hope you enjoy!

Lake Como Morning Light

Donated for Auction : American Cancer Society
Framed 16 x 20
Oil/canvas
This painting was a recent donation. I love to donate to great causes and give about 8 paintings a year to charities hoping to raise money for various causes. I love to paint and feel so blessed to be able to help. This one raised quite a bit of cash for the fight against cancer so I was very pleased!

Lake Como Romance

Title: Lake Como Romance
Size: 16 x 20
Medium: Oil on gallery wrapped canvas

See eBay auction for purchase tonight

PAINTING:
This painting took some time and glows with lots of glazes of color over and over, drying imbetween layers, but it is finally complete. The glaze is just a mixture of oil paint thinned down with linseed oil and turpentine and I like to bring out the depth of color this way sometimes.
INSPIRATION:
I began the composition slowly from a snapshot I took on Lake Como last summer of a wonderful little private beach. I remember there was an old woman there feeding the ducks and we sat for a long time watching the locals come and go on their little boats. With the Alps rising above the lake, it is a wonderful quiet spot.

Fall Fishing Reflection

Title: Fall Fishing Reflection
Size: 20 x 24
Medium: Oil on gallery wrapped canvas
Check out eBay auction for purchase tonight
PAINTING:
I had a lot of fun with these Fall colors and the light blue in the water and sky sets them off beautifully. I toned this canvas with an underpainting just a shade deeper than the finished painting so that the colors go from deeper, cooler colors, to brighter, warmer colors as they are layered. As usual, I start with both knife and brush, scumbling shades on, and then finish with a heavier hand on my highlight colors and some finer brushwork in sky.
INSPIRATION:
I painted my very first fisherman for a gallery when we lived in Alabama, and it didn't take long to sell. I painted a lot of river scenes along the river in Montgomery and there was often someone fishing. The serenity of the scene took my breathe away. Sometimes it is the simple things that are beautiful and you don't even have to travel far to find them, but seeing in the right light is the key. Hope you enjoy!

Lake Como Hidden Cove

Title: Lake Como Hidden Cove
Size: 16 x 20
Medium: Oil on gallery wrapped canvas

See eBay auction tonight for purchase

PAINTING:
Painted from one of my small travel sketches...this original oil combines palette knife and brush and golden colors to create a colorful and serene setting. Many layers of luminous blues and greens are glazed onto the canvas from lean to heavy so the texture helps add emotion to the piece.

INSPIRATION:
My family and I recently returned from Lake Como (here they are) and we walked all around the town. I found a little alley, so narrow my hands could touch both walls and convinced them to follow me down. It must have gone down for miles, but we trecked on, out of curiousity to where it would lead. And this is where we ended up! This beautiful private beach. Isn't it a lovely spot? So I had to paint it.

Lake Como by Boat

Here is a snapshot I took just after we got off the boat in Varena. It's so pretty, I miss it already!

Title: Lake Como by Boat

Size: 20 x 24"

Medium: Oil on gallery wrapped canvas

Check out my eBay auction tonight for purchase!

PAINTING:

This painting took many weeks to complete and I am very pleased with its finish. It has both fine brush work and textural palette knife work and so it is layered with translucent oil color and rich with texture and detail, light, shadow and depth.

INSPIRATION:

We returned from Italy and a 4 day stay on Lake Como. From the town of Bellagio, we boated to all the other towns on the lake and the sites from the Lake are spectacular. Everywhere I looked I saw something I wanted to paint.
This waterscape looks great in a black or silver plein air frame, but can hang without one as well.
Hope you enjoy!
