A brand new peaceful and colorful landscape.
I did a few commissions like this for holiday commissions and
wanted one to hang for awhile.

This is the time of year when we all need to count our blessings.
Think about what we can do to help others,
and above all don't take a second for granted!
It all goes by in a blink, remember moments like these with a smile :)

Original oil painting - Rainy First Kiss - by Karen Tarlton

Painted a romance painting this week.  Feeling the love this holiday season and  it shows in my work I suppose.
12x16
Oil
SOLD
We went out to RedRock today and hiked around on the beautiful mountains of Red rock that rise from the earth out in the middle of the Mojave desert here in Las Vegas.

A beautiful 70 degree day full of sunshine, golden light, and both my daughters home with us!  There is not a better feeling than having both my girls on either side of me!
This place has real beauty. I really do need to paint some of this lovely desert land and sky. On my to paint list for sure!

Original oil painting - Rain - impressionistic palette knife fine art by Karen Tarlton

Rain Couple
12x16
Oil

"The pursuit of truth and beauty is a sphere of activity in which we are permitted to remain children all our lives." - Albert Einstein

Rich texture and beautiful impressionistic imagery.  I love to capture a moment in time.  My rain couples offer symbolism...shelter in eachother's arms when times are troubled.  We find strength with support of loved ones.  Let me know if you would like your own custom rain painting!

Fall Love

Title: Fall Love
16 x 20
Oil
"Everyday you spend without a smile, is a day lost."
LOVE, love, love....love is all you need! And a really warm coat! It's even cold here in Vegas so I really feel for all the people in cold places like Chicago....yikes! Bundle up and stay warm and keep the faith...Spring will come. Ground hog says, early this year and I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
This painting is thick and has lots of cool blues which makes that yellow/gold fall tree pop right off the canvas. Hope this one brings a smile and warms your heart!
Thanks for checking in!

Canopy of Love

SOLD
"A heart that loves is always young."--Greek Proverb
We are expecting a mix of snow and ice rain here tonight. I'm missing the warm sun like some of you, so maybe this one will warm your heart. Warm color fills the canvas and I feel this painting is all about love, with it's bright color and positive energy, hence the title.

Forest Rendezvous

"Life beats down and crushes the soul and art reminds you that you have one." --Stella Adler
This speaks in a soothing green palette with expressive and rich texture. I love this size canvas. It seems to fit just about anywhere and looks great paired up with another of the same size.
I'm just about full up on Christmas commissions.....working hard like a little elf to get them finished in time to ship for Christmas! I am so delighted that so many of you have made my work a part of your special holiday.
I just went into a new gallery! Here's the link to the new website: www.krdesigns.org

Love in the Rain

SOLD
Title: Love in the Rain
Medium: oil
Size: 12 x 16
I love to paint couples in the rain. I have painted a few paintings similiar to this one because I'm enjoying the movement and emotion in this loose palette knife work. Swirls of color envelop the couple as they emerge from the abstract background. I am enjoying painting lots of smaller works for the holidays....they make wonderful gifts!!
And I'm still busy with commissions! Daylight savings has me up early to work as we loose good light so early in the day. Hopefully this painting will brighten up somebody's mood and room soon!
Thanks for checking in to see one of my latest creations!

Rainy Romance

Title: Rainy Romance
Size: 12 x 16
Medium: oil on stretched canvas
SOLD
"There is no remedy for love but to love more." -- Henry David Thoreeau
I want to thank you all once again for all the great feedback and nice emails you send. It means more than I can say to know my hard work has been meaningful to you, and I appreciate the wonderful comments!
I'm talking to my daughter right now about "patience" so it's on my mind. Since we are a military family and move every couple years, it is getting hard on our highschool daughters. Having a best friend is important to girls, and finding that special person can be tough! We've only been here in Vegas a few months and we really miss our best friends from Virginia!
If you have a special person in your life hold on to him and treasure him or her!

Fall Romance

Title: Fall Romance
Medium: oil on stretched canvas
Size: 16 x20
"Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined." --Henry David Thoreau
I am very much imagining a cool crisp fall right now! We are having another heat spell and our airconditioner broke again! I have to stop painting by noon when it get close to 95 degrees!!! Too hot!
This painting cools me down just looking at it:
I use lighter colors next to warm tones in thick paint to make the colors more vibrant. Lots of warm cad yellow to make it glow and a variety of different colors against eachother.
I hope you enjoy this colorful bit of Autumn!

Lake Como Romance

Title: Lake Como Romance
Size: 16 x 20
Medium: Oil on gallery wrapped canvas

See eBay auction for purchase tonight

PAINTING:
This painting took some time and glows with lots of glazes of color over and over, drying imbetween layers, but it is finally complete. The glaze is just a mixture of oil paint thinned down with linseed oil and turpentine and I like to bring out the depth of color this way sometimes.
INSPIRATION:
I began the composition slowly from a snapshot I took on Lake Como last summer of a wonderful little private beach. I remember there was an old woman there feeding the ducks and we sat for a long time watching the locals come and go on their little boats. With the Alps rising above the lake, it is a wonderful quiet spot.

Fall Love

Title: Fall Love
Size: 20 x 24
Medium: Oil on gallery wrapped canvas
see eBay auction tonight for purchase.
PAINTING:
I used my favorite palette knife and a strong contrast of color in this fall painting with multiple layers of oil paint. Lots of cad yellows and reds set against a gray and light blue background really seems to push the color further and I love the combination.
INSPIRATION:
These Virginia trees are amazing right now. I think it is even more beautiful than the cherry blossoms in spring! I love the reds, yellows and oranges on the trees all around and I figure we have another few weeks before all the leaves fall off and winter sets in. I hope you enjoy!
