Autumn Splendor Birch Trees

I love the texture and sculptural quality of these trees and think they make great subjects for my style. My favorite golden yellows were all used in this large painting and as I let it dry imbetween coats of paint, it is extremely thick and has lots of beautiful broken color and texture. A favorite for sure!

Birch Tree Splendor

Here are a few photos of two of my favorite landscape paintings that were recently purchased from a great couple, (Thank you Ann and Vic!) and I love how they look in their home so I wanted to share. She chose a gold frame for each with linen liner and hung them at eye level and not only do the frames enhance the artwork beautifully but they look great with her decor as well!

THE PAINTING:
I realize not everybody has huge walls and sweet little paintings like this one fit just about anywhere, turning a plain boring little space into a focal point. Teals, blues, greens and golds in the background and the black and white textured trunks in the foreground will want to make you reach out and touch them! Click to enlarge to see!
Storms:
We had a big thunder storm last night and I just love when the skies open up and make that amazing noise. Maggie the dog hides under the bed.

THE PAINTING:
I love these trees and they look like they belong together hence the title. I once again pushed my color and texture on this one and it has great presence and energy because of it. This will go on auction tonight!
The Day:
Today, imbetween painting, I had lunch with a friend in old town Alexandria and it is so beautiful there. I went by the Torpedo Factory and talked to some artists friends of mine in their studios. It's always fun and inspiring to talk to other artists about their work and see their spaces. I'm getting ready for a big move....about a month to go. Everything will go with me and the first thing I will unpack will be my paint!!!!

This is the invitation to my next show....La Femme. I won third place in this juried show and we put the show up tonight. It looks great. If you live in the area stop by it should be fun. Cassatt's always makes some great food too.

ABOUT THE PAINTING:

It's hard not to paint a landscape this time of year. The weather is phenomenal here! I did some serious Spring cleaning this weekend and with the windows open I could feel the breeze and see the leaves rustling from every window. I walk my dog several times a day on the beautiful tree lined paths and park near our house. I have to take some photos because the azaleas are blooming right now and everything is full color. This piece I completed after one of those walks, drawing from my memory and painting with brush and knife in reds and greens and bits of golden rich oils.

Another beautiful spring-like day! My passion for nature and the outdoors often makes me want to try to capture the beauty as in this painting. Here I try to convey a sense of peace and tranquility and the quiet strength of the forest. I love to paint with both brushes and knives because both techniques are required to generate the textures and details that make my unique style. My favorite painting is the one that is currently on the easel. Whatever it happens to be I am working on, the joy comes from creation.

ABOUT THIS PAINTING:
Rich thick oil and lots of vivid autumn colors....one of my favorites. There's something about a path that welcomes you into the painting.
I haven't been able to paint as much as I like to the last few days....lots of Spring cleaning lately, even though it is still winter. As soon as we get a new assignment, I get into moving mode and start going through closets and eliminating. We move to Las Vegas end of June. I think it will be exciting. All the way from one coast to the other!

ABOUT THE PAINTING:
I love to watch people look at my paintings. At the recent gallery reception, I could see people look at one, walk towards it with a hand outstretched, ready to touch and then quickly pull the hand back. I see it time and again and understand the urge to want to touch because it has grooves, bumps and crevices that you just have to feel! It really is alright to touch them. Oil paintings are tough as nails and very hard to damage, so be my guest. I decided to put a lot of time into this lovely landscape, so it has an amazing amount of texture and the birch tree bark does actually feel like bark.
This is one of my favorite landscapes in awhile! This piece has layers of palette knife work and intricate brushwork and I know it will make a wonderful showpiece for somebody's living room! Hope you enjoy.

I've painted several Christmas present commissions this month
and I always enjoy them. It's wonderful to paint a place that is special
to a family and knowing that it will be a unique gift is a joy.

ABOUT THE PAINTING:

This is a vibrant holiday red, fall tree painted in rich broken colors of reds and blues and super thick bark and leaf texture applied with knife and brush. Some of my favorite colors and textures were used here and I just love painting these trees.

UPCOMING SHOWS:

I was accepted into a juried show that will be held in January which is always exciting.

I will also be in a new gallery in Arlington in January so I'm getting paintings ready for that reception and I have an art show this weekend, actually starting tomorrow at the historic Fort CF Smith which will be lots of fun. I love the architecture of the beautiful building and to see all the wonderful art from other artists I hang with is inspiring. A busy, busy month!
