Weekend in Monterey California!

"Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get." One of my favorite movies!
My husband loves to run so he's running another marathon. I help him pick his marathon locations. This time we're iin Monterey for him to run the Big Sur! What a beautiful place. He'll have some scenic views on his 26 miles and I'll go home with some great visions for paintings!!!!
It's pupping season in Monterey! The seals are laying all over the beach trying to get warm and the pups are adorable!!!!

Warm Glow of Night - Original oil painting by Karen Tarlton

20x24

Oil

Bold, chunky paint and radiant color light this one up! Getting ready for another weekend trip to California. Going to beautiful Big Sur! My husband is running the Big Sur marathon. He's excited. I'm just going to soak in the beauty, take snapshots and maybe paint a few pochades while he runs like a mad dog.

Soon I'll list some finished beach scenes. I have San Diego surfers and Santa Barbara coast scenes already in the works from last weeks trip!

Thanks for checking in and come back soon!

Karen Tarlton Original oil painting - New Orleans Bourbon St. Jazz

16x20

Oil

Spring Jazz fest is just right around the corner. A time of excitement in New Orleans. Here my reflection on a late night stroll after all the buzz has subsided, and all you hear is the sexy, soft hum of the sax.

Karen Tarlton Original oil painting - Fall Forest

24x30

Oil

I'm back from California! We went to about five Universities in CA up and down the coast! Walked at least ten miles a day touring them all. My daughter is so lucky to have so many great choices!

I did miss painting and blogging! I just varnished this large painting today so it is dry and ready to ship. I love these colors and lots of rich texture so it has a real touchable quality!

Hope everyone had a Happy Easter!!!

Karen Tarlton Original oil painting - Romance Landscape - palette knife impasto

24x36

Title: Autumn Melody Together

Oil

Brand new and still a bit wet but available for purchase!

Beautiful color and rich thick paint. I backlit the trees in a soft silvery grey. Really makes the reds and yellow pop and buttery palette knife movements add depth and wonderful texture.

Click on image to go to my store where there are more details and many other paintings to view!

I love these two quotes and they seem to suit my prolific style:

"I dream a lot. I do more painting when I'm not painting. It's in the subconscious." ::: Andrew Wyeth ::: "When I work, I work very fast, but preparing to work can take any length of time." ::: Cy Twombly :::

Thanks for checking in!

Original oil painting impressionism - City Rain - by Karen Tarlton

City Rain

Oil

20x20

One more rainy inspired painting for April!

April is my birthday month and I celebrate all month! My actual birthday is earth day the 22nd, but I like to think of it as a month long celebration of living one more year!

I'm delighted Spring is on the way and am getting ready for a little Spring break to take my daughter to check out all the Universities she got into next week!

We'll be in Berkeley, Davis, San Diego and LA at all the most amazing campuses.....wish I were going back to college! I'll take lots of photos and hopefully produce some great California inspired paintings when I come back.

I have a few more days to paint and post!

Happy Spring!
