New Orleans Starry Night painting by Karen Tarlton

Seems sudden but it's already November and the deep freeze is hitting the country

and the countdown to end of holiday shopping time has started.

I've  started commissions already so don't delay as it takes time for oil paint to dry!

PAINTING:
 From a white canvas, I begin to see old New Orleans emerge with pure oils. I used some cad red and cad yellow in this one for added punch. I decided all palette knife and no brush as a knife seems to better suit New Orleans. Good Jazz music and lots of vibrant color.

INSPIRATION:
I have had many requests for more New Orleans French Quarter paintings and promise to try to keep painting more. This city is like the Paris of our country. Everyone who has ever been there loves it and some of the best people are from New Orleans. I love its antiquity and architecture, soul and charm. It is a joy to paint....hope you enjoy.

New Orleans French Quarter Romance palette knife fine art impressionism by Karen Tarlton

Remembering love and honoring loved ones lost this memorial day.

So many people have sacrificed so much

and served us and our country with such incredible integrity.

When I paint, I think of so many things, but sometimes it's just

about remembering.

This painting has loads of texture.

I created a rainy, atmospheric feel with layer after layer

of paint and a painterly, and unique textural effect.

Hope you enjoy!

"If you want to find the secrets of the Universe,

think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration."

~Nikola Tesla

In this piece, you can almost hear the melody;

the piano man and the harmonica;

and the hum of the light rain on the colorful streets.

Two brand new works just listing!

New Orleans is one of my favorite cities to paint, especially in month of February.

Lots of great weddings and memories have been made there.

These two glow with golds and teal colors.

A brand new favorite with a Starry Night take on it.

It stems from my love for both New Orleans and Van Gogh's work

and is loaded with texture and color.

I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving!

Just recently finished this commission.

She requested Jackson Square Van Gogh style!

Vincent Willem van Gogh was a Dutch post-impressionist painter whose work, notable for its rough beauty, emotional honesty, and bold color, had a far-reaching influence on 20th century art

He is a personal favorite of mine and has influenced my art as well.

Everyone has a memory from the city of New Orleans. Some wild and crazy, but always something memorable for sure. I like to paint this in reflective color and thick, expressive palette knife movements because the place has such spirit and energy! Hope you enjoy and it inspires you in some way.

New Orleans is a soulful place so I always paint it in bold color! This one has thick paint and contrasting warm and cool colors to give it a moody feel. I hope it stirs some emotion and helps communicate something about this unique city.

New Orleans will always have a special place in my heart. This original oil captures the magic of New Orleans in vibrant, bold color. Like Gumbo, New Orleans is a vibrant mix of European and African ingredients, with a bit of something magic. After a bit of simmering, the result is spicy, soulful and unique!
