Original oil painting Spring Birds and Blooms and Rain Dance by Karen Tarlton

 18x18
Spring Birds and Blooms
Oil

There is a story line for these paintings actually.
Today I woke up to birds chirping outside my window and the loud rain from the night before
seemingly coming to an end....
then the downpour and then it actually snowed again.
So here they are.
I'm just no longer buying it :)

Well I'm working a tiny bit less this month, although still painting a few hours a day at least.
Our youngest daughter goes off to college soon
and we have just two weeks left to enjoy her.
I hope she thinks " I miss my dearest mother; I now no longer find her half so bothersome as she was -but remember her so careful and so kind."
But I know she won't give
me much of a thought as her life begins to bloom
and friendships grow.
She will hear my voice though, throughout her time away
and maybe miss
my smile and hugs - I know it! But not as much as I'll miss hers :)

It is most definitely spring time around here.
The pollen is fierce though and I've been sneezing all day.
I love to see all the nesting birds
and flowers blooming though.
It's worth every sneeze :)

The holiday season is here for sure and a unique oil painting has to be the perfect gift.
Especially for someone that has everything.

I'm working like one of Santa's elves painting special holiday gifts for your loved ones
And  that gives me joy!

The Gathering Original oil painting by Karen

12x12
The Gathering
Oil

Whimsical birds and expressive palette knife work on this new one. My kids always laugh at me because I love to tell them what an animal is "saying" or would say if he could talk. This painting makes me smile because I think I managed to make these three "talk" as well.
This is a new favorite!

I have a passion for flowers and when I lived in Virginia, California, Alabama and Florida, I had amazing, beautiful gardens full of local varieties of plants and flowers. I have to say I miss that living here in the desert, where water is rationed and the soil like concrete. In Vegas people grow very little or have rock and cactus gardens. I miss my flowers.....so I paint them!
I have to say, I still miss the scent of my lavender plants, the buzz of the bees and cutting my lovely roses and peonies fresh for a vase.  ;)
I'm in the mood to paint some sunflowers next and maybe my favorite Hydrangea!

Royal Peacock - impressionism impasto by Karen Tarlton

I love these teal blue colors set against a soft silvery background.  I layered thick oil, impasto style and this beauty is almost dry.

A very lovely and ostentatious, bird but very noisy!

Original oil painting by Karen Tarlton Birds painting impasto fine art

Spring Birds and Blooms

A good painting to me has always been like a friend. It keeps me company, comforts and inspires.
Hedy Lamarr

Painted with a palette knife in colorful oils!  While I was painting today,  a of birds are darting in and out among the blooms outside my studio window.  I love to watch them interact. Even with the wind blowing on this hot summer day and the flowers bobbing up and down, these little birds are as agile as a fighter pilot- they can maneuver in so many directions while the trees and flowers blow in the wind.

Spring Bird Song by Karen Tarlton - original bird painting in oil

THIS PAINTING IS SOLD!
Spring Bird Song
24x24
Oil

Love the play of yellow/gold and pale blue/greens....soft and romantic.  Like sculpture on the canvas....this painting is very textural and rich.  I love the tactile, sculptural quality I can achieve, when I use my little palette knife to apply each buttery stroke to the canvas!
Hope you enjoy!
