Violin Girl paintings by Karen Tarlton palette knife impressionism

Two new favorites are finished.
THE PAINTINGS:
This is part of my "Women in the Arts series". I varnish coffee stained violin sheet music on a primed canvas and then add layer upon layer of first acrylic and then oils. I allow some of the sheet music to show through, where the paint is just thinnly glazed with oil, so that you see some of what it is she and I are so inspired by....the music! It takes a lot of time to paint these figurative paintings but I enjoy every second of it and love the results! I hope you do too.

Original oil painting by Karen Tarlton - "Violin Melody" and "Heron"

These two are a couple of my favorites.
The first is a new one in my musical notes series.
I use sheet music, varnish and medium and then lots of oil paint.
It's a unique one of a kind painting.
The Heron is one of my spirit birds.
Along with the Hummingbird, this waterbird finds me, in my dreams
and when I take my daily walk along the water. I always see one.

Original oil painting Violinist "Blue Note" by Karen Tarlton - palette knife fine art impressionism

I dedicate my life to art, so ideas surround me, and I find beauty everywhere. The richness of life is where I find my inspiration, from the wonderous to the sadness. Music, too, is a big part of my journey. From Bach and Tchaikovsky to jazz and rock, I always have music playing while I am painting. Music is a perfect inspiration.

Violin Vision in Blue figurative impasto palette knife fine art by Karen

Violin Vision in Blue
20x24
Oil

I know the holiday season has begun
when I'm so busy painting
I don't have time to blog ;)

This is one of my favorite figurative works to date.
Impressionism is all about piecing colors together so that when
one is next to another they visually unite into something
Beautiful.
The knife allows me to lay the paint like frosting.
Sculpting the color into form is what I do.
Joy!

Original oil painting Violin Melody by Karen Tarlton

Violin Melody

I'm always inspired by musicians. I listen to jazz, classical, rock, and just about everything. Love it all and painting these whimsical figures is my vision of the music I suppose.
Every artist dips his brush in his own soul, and paints his own nature into his pictures. ~Henry Ward Beecher

My daughter plays the violin beautifully and she is always an inspiration to my musical figurative pieces, and so is her music!  I draw attention here to plays of complimentary color.  Green on red, yellow on blue.  My intent is to tell a story and let you write it.

Violin Inspiration

This piece is inspired by my creative daughter Kayla. A photo above from one of her artsy shoots and notice her shirt slogan below....I love it! It is certainly something to live by and states: "The only place the word success comes before work is in the dictionary".

Here are a few snapshots from our daughter's recent recital. She is so inspiring to listen to and to watch play. The violin is a beautiful instrument.

ABOUT THIS PAINTING:
I am running this one on auction tonight. This is a unique peice inspired by my daughter, who plays the violin. I used extra thick paint, with a palette knife and some musical notes varnished into the composition for added texture and interest. Music and art are very important in my life, so I love to paint every variation of it. Hope you enjoy!

Violin Solo

Title: Violin Solo
Size: 24 x 30
Medium: Oil on canvas and mixed media
See eBay auction tonight for purchase...opening bid will be $160
PAINTING:
This original oil is large and heavily textured with oil and palette knife, yet has delicate brushwork and detail. Painting women in elaborate gowns is crazy fun. After painting a few smaller violin women for an art show, I decided to paint this larger one and get extra creative with some musical sheets varnished into the painting, floating about. I also used a bit of gold paint for some extra sheen.
INSPIRATION:
I listen to my daughter practice her violin almost every day and just bought her a gown for her performances. I can't wait and will probably cry when I see her play. I've painted many violin women but this one was extra fun. It's always good to push aside "what should be" and paint what is in my mind. Here I see the music dancing in her head before she plays and she looks a bit nervous, but you can find your own story.
