Original oil painting Sunset Sailing by Karen Tarlton

Sunset Sailing
16x20
Oil

We live in southern California on the beach right now.
It's not too shabby. Nice weather and lots to do.
In the past 20 years we've moved 17 times and lived in many different states
This painting is part, California, part Florida and little bit Samoa.
All places I've lived so each painting is a memory of so
many places.
I hope helps you remember a special place and time in your life as well.

Hawaii Sailing in Paradise

One of my collector's sent this photo of her commissioned painting hanging in her dining room. Thanks so much for the photo. I always love to see how your new paintings look in your home! It looks fantastic on this wall color and I love the wide gold plein air frame....classic and elegant!

Title: Hawaii Sailing in Paradise

Size: 20 x 24

Medium: oil on stretched canvas

PAINTING:

Listing one of my favorite summer tropical paintings on auction for a great price. Rich and thick and colorful. This painting was a dream to paint and since I am always yearning to sit on the beach and listen to the surf, this painting is about as close as I can get for awhile!

What I wouldn't give to be there right now!

NEWS:

Packers come start tomorrow! I will be taking many paintings in the car with me when we go next week, proper care and movement of my paintings is a priority. Oil paintings travel just fine though. We've moved so many times I lost count over the last 20 years...maybe 17 moves now, and I've never had one painting damaged in a move, knock on wood!

Hawaii Sailing in Paradise

Title: Hawaii Sailing in Paradise
Size: 20 x 24
Medium: oil on stretched canvas
Going to my eBay auction tonight.
THE PAINTING:
Rich oils in this signature Hawaii landscape painting....colors of Summer and the tropics, and shades of cool blues and warm umbers sand colors. Vivid memories and colorful displays of color make this paradise a warm and welcoming painting.
My thoughts: Art for me is a constant challenge and life long project. As a painter, I express with color and my works can be very strong and intense. Sometimes my finished painting is like a sculpture on the canvas, and even a bit whimsical but always it is full of my distinctive imagery and life experiences.
I hope you enjoy this painting!

Hanalei Bay, Hawaii

Title: Hanalei Bay, Hawaii
Size: 16 x 20
Medium: Oil on stretched canvas

PAINTING and INSPIRATION:

I always enjoy painting a tropical scene, especially in the winter. When it's cold outside and I miss the sun, I can picture myself on this beach. It's painted in my palette and brush technique, mostly knife on this one and lean to fat, heavier on the white waves and foreground colors. It has lots of interesting textures which is one of the reasons I love oil paints. You have to reach out and touch it!

Kapalua Bay, Hawaii

Title: Hawaii Kapalua Bay
Size: 16 x 20
Medium: Oil on gallery wrapped canvas
Check out my eBay auction for purchase.
PAINTING:
I painted this in my loose plein air style and I used my favorite blues and sandy beach colors, knife and a bit of brush. I'm wondering if I should make another, newer U-tube to show how I paint this style, it's lots of fun. What do you think?
INSPIRATION:
I took out some old Maui photos and it really makes me want to go to my favorite island when I do that. Maui is great. Kapalua Bay has warm golden sand, swaying palms, calm waters. What more can you ask for? Maybe a nice cold drink?

Beach Palms in Paradise

Title: Hawaii Palms in Paradise
Size: 11 x 14
Medium: Oil on gallery wrapped canvas
See eBay auction for purchase
PAINTING:
This little painting takes us outside to a sunny retreat dominated by blues and greens. Light is painted in vivid golds and indian yellows to give the impression of warmth and sun. You can almost feel that nice breeze. Here my palette is lighter and although I use mostly palette knife, I have some brisk, fleeting brushmarks.
INSPIRATION:
We actually had a warm sunny day today and the sun always puts me in a good mood. I thought someone somewhere might like a reminder of better days during some of winter's colder ones. Hope you enjoy!
