Original oil painting Magic of Venice Italy Cityscape palette knife fine art by Karen Tarlton

Magic of Venice
18x24
Oil
SOLD
Venice is an artist's dream place! When I visited there I stayed a week, and really wasn't ready to leave when it was time to go. I did take over 300 photos and painted some watercolor sketches for later works but I would love to go back. No time for travel right now, so I dream about it and paint it!
The magic of the light on the canals in the early morning and near twilight hours is enchanting. The architecture amazing. Quite and perfect when you find the right spot.
Hope you enjoy!

Venice Evening Glow

Here is photo of our lovely daughters in front of a quiet canal from our trip to Venice last summer. We love Venice!

Title: Venice Evening glow

Size: 20 x 24

Medium: oil on stretched canvas
THIS PAINTING IS SOLD

THE PAINTING:

This original has at least four layers of paint and lots of beautiful broken color and texture. I used contrasts of colors to bring glowing light and reflection to the water and buildings. One of my favorite Venice paintings!

A beautiful and unique city. I love painting Venice almost as much as visiting it. It has to be the most romantic city in the world. If you go, you must walk or take a gondola, to a quiet part of the city, where there are only locals and no tourists. Here it is peaceful and quiet and you can really feel the city and absorb the history. Wonderful!

Venice Italy Gondola in Early Light

Title: Venice Italy Gondola in Early Light
Size: 20 x 24
Medium: oil on stretched canvas
PAINTING:
This is a brand new one going on auction tonight! I love to paint Venice....a magical, beautiful city. The reflections in the miandering canals and the peaceful, historic buildings make the perfect setting for my works. I wish I was there right about now.
THE MOVE:
Instead...right now I'm in Missouri. Today we drove through Ohio, Indiana, Illinois to MO. It's going pretty quick and our truck will be meeting us there in just four more days! The weather has been absolutely perfect so we are very lucky, especially for the summer.
I sure appreciate your interest in my paintings, even through this move. Have a great weekend!

Venice by Moonlight

Here is my adorable husband and eldest daughter in front of our rental house in Venice. What a view! I love Venice!

Title: Venice by Moonlight

Size: 16 x 20

Medium: oil on stretched canvas

PAINTING: This painting has many many layers of thick paint for an extra impressionistic and loose look. I pushed my color and texture as far as I could on this one and it was a blast to paint!

I think Italy is one of the most beautiful places in the the world and Venice the most inspiring. I took hundreds of photos on our last trip to paint from, but mostly I rely on my memory for detail and color, my photos are just dull compared to my memory of the place. I loved the ancient stucco and brick building and amazing canals. Not a single car in Venice. Too bad there aren't more places like that.

Summer Light Venice Canal

Title: Summer Light Venice Canal
Size: 16x12
Medium: Oil on stretched canvas
....see auction tonight for purchase
ABOUT THE PAINTING:
I love the charm and antiquity of this special city and its intricate waterways are amazing and beautiful. If you ever get a chance to go and decide to ride a gondola, make sure you take these lesser canals, which are quiet and remote, unlike the crowded, busy grand canal. I took lots of photos on my trip to Venice and love to paint these quiet scenes. I use a bit of knife and load my brush heavily when I use it. This is one of my favorite little Venice paintings...hope you enjoy.

Venice Italy Canal Reflections

Title: Venice Italy Canal Reflections
Size: 12 x 16
Medium: Oil on stretched canvas

ABOUT THE PAINTING:

This composition developed slowly from some of my photographs from my Venice trip. I moved some things around to make the composition look more balanced. I think this gondolier looks content and the painting portrays the sense of history he must feel every day here. Grey, green tones also add to the serene quality. Hope you enjoy!

Early Morning Venice Gondolier

Title: Early Morning Venice Gondolier

Size: 11 x 14

Medium: Oil on gallery wrapped canvas

PAINTING:

This original oil has rich color and lots of rich buttery Winsor Newton artist oils applied with knife. I used some foundation white blended with golden hues to create the old stucco and brick work, applying it like a mason, and the building shadow are rich with umbers and siennas.

INSPIRATION:

My recent Venice trip to has inspired so many paintings and I just fell in love with the architecture, history and romance of Venice. These lesser canals are charming and peaceful in early morning light.

Venice Colors

Title: Venice Colors
Size : 20 x 24
Medium: Oil on gallery wrapped canvas
See eBay auction for purchase tonight.
PAINTING:
Powerful and cheerful primary colors abound in this sunny painting of a wonderful city. The color sets the tone, and texture helps to elicit an emotion and tell a story. The vibrant colors and hues are thickly applied with many layers of incredible Winsor Newton Artist Oils with a palette knife.
INSPIRATION:
The romance and sheer beauty of Venice has been an inspiration to every artist who has ever traveled there. I returned from Venice in September and can't stop thinking about it. It's surreal because of its antiquity and unique charm. I wish I could go more often! But if not, at least I will enjoy painting it every so often! Remember what they say...doing what you like is freedom. Liking what you do is happiness!

Venice Italy

Here are our girls in Venice! They saw it for the first time and were in awe. Our feet got bruised from all the walking but it was worth it!
Title: Venice Italy
Size: 20" x 24"
Medium: Oil on gallery wrapped canvas
Check out eBay auction tonight for purchase
PAINTING:
I have many multiple layers of color on this peice and lots of details and color. I love the way the ocher colors of the buildings look with blues and greens of the water and the reflections are so much fun to swirl and drag with a palette knife!
INSPIRATION:
We just returned from Italy at the 1st of this month and I already miss it. I think the detail and architecture of Venice is amazing and it has to be one of the most interesting cities in the world.
