This has been my busiest season and it's nothing but fun.
Timely too since I'm now a empty nester, painting has become my focus

a joy.

I love the first snow of winter! We just moved from Southern California to the east coast so we're looking forward to it!
All the leaves are down and the trees are ready to glisten with some prismatic color!

New winter scenes just dry!
I started these a few weeks ago, as soon as the temp started to dip
but it's been so cold that they have taken awhile to dry.

All the soft grey/blue colors of the snow and sky
really help the brilliant gold colors
of the lights glow!
Baby it's cold outside

Original oil painting Winter Poetry by Karen

11x14
First Snow of Winter
Oil

Inspiration:
As I sit here in South Bay in my shorts and flip flops, I think about the beautiful blizzards of winter.
I grew up near Lake Tahoe in Northern California where winter was a magical time!
We used to hike up Mt. Rose in the snow with the dogs, and I think it was on this quiet mountain,
in the pristine powder, that I learned to love the colors of winter and the beauty of the snow.

One of my first Winter landscapes this year.  I'm ready for some cooler weather and am looking forward to October and November this year.  This thick impasto painting is perfect to warm up any small space and looks great with or without a frame.

"I dream a lot. I do more painting when I'm not painting. It's in the subconscious." -- Andrew Wyeth
This painting has lots of thick palette knife paint and great movement and texture......ready for some cooler weather to head this way I guess.

We had another very hot day in Vegas and I had to paint some snow. My husband and I grew up near Tahoe skiing frequently. I used to love it when I was young and loved to go fast. My husband was actually on the Junior Olympic Ski team when I met him. I used to watch him ski in awe. Watching a great skier is something like watching a great ballerina. It looks effortless, graceful, and fast.

Snow Days in Arlington!

This is really amazing! I live at the top of this hill and we had over 24 inches of snow 2 days ago. Schools are closed, mail can't be delivered and everyone's cars are buried and stuck! Here all the neighborhood is out with sleds. What fun!
My little dog Maggie loved it! In the powder all you could see was the tips of her ears!

Our little angels looking forward to no school this week, hence all the smiling! Look at my husband's car in the background...buried. I have a 4-wheel drive car so I will be driving paintings to the UPS this morning without problem. Mail services will never make it up our hill.
I HOPE EVERYONE HAS A WARM AND COZY HOLIDAY!
