Before our youngest daughter left for college

I took her to the Getty Museum.

Of course I mostly just wanted to sit and stare at the

 Van Gogh Iris garden painting

When I returned to my easel

I just had to paint some Iris for myself.

swirls and drags of thick oil.

I'm remodeling a bit right now. 

I moved everything out of my studio and upstairs to it's new home!

My new space is fantastic with much light, storage and several 

different work areas and painting areas.

Sometimes I work on more than one painting at a time.

It's good to be busy and never bored!

Both of these are painted with extremely thick oil paint and palette knives so that the canvas is loaded with texture and bursting with color. I want each scene to be filled with movement and energy, so I incorporated a lot of warm against cool color in the design to suggest that feeling. Combining short staccato strokes with long sweeping drags of the palette knife helps generate a sense of movement.
