Original oil painting Provence Lavender Sunshine palette knife fine art impressionism by Karen Tarlton

Such a fragance!
Nothing like Lavender, and fields of purple are so magical!
I always plant as much Lavender as I can, but you need sunshine to see it bloom.
Mine's not blooming all that much but in Provence.....oohh la la!

Colorful flowers in a sunny window
all dressed in blue shutters -

Many homes in Provence have added charm.
I have blue shutters on my house just like this

especially when the window is bursting with flowers!

Original oil painting Provence Lavender Breeze by Karen Tarlton

SOLD
Provence, France Lavender Breeze
16x20
Oil

Bright, cheerful and light with expressive palette knife work.
This is Provence; great light and the rich scent of lavender in the air.
We didn't get to take a trip there this year but I'm hoping by next year.
It's been awhile and it's time to see my favorite places again.
Until then, I have the canvas to bring it to light!

France! Beauty everywhere....... and this place smells lovely too.

"I see my path, but I don't know where it leads. Not knowing where I'm going is what inspires me to travel it."
~Rosalia de Castro

My heart is there.....France! Often times, journeys of the heart are some of the best trips we take: Painted from photos of past travels, this original oil depicts the most beautiful place to see Provence lavender - the Senanque Abbey, a Cistercian abbey near the village of Gordes.

Some people see something lovely and want to take a picture and just enjoy gazing at it.
When I see something beautiful, I say to myself, "I have to paint that"
My instinct is to paint it immediately, right away and that is why I fell in love with plein air painting.

Not much time to paint when traveling, there's too much to see! I've learned to be patient and store the images in the back of my mind until I'm ready to load up my palette with large amounts of paint and dive into it with my trusty little knife.
This one was painted in the studio and is just dry!

Provence Sunflower Panorama

SOLD
Title: Provence Sunflower Panorama
Size: 12 x 24
Medium: Oil on stretched canvas
Going on eBay auction tonight for a great low price!
ABOUT THE PAINTING:
This is my new favorite canvas size. I really like an elongated landscape and this one used brush and palette knife, and is very painterly and expressive. I captured the feel of the warm sun and light in the distance with the warm sunflowers in the forground and the colors get cooler and cooler as you move into the distance from greens to lavenders and blues. It looks fantastic in one of my black or gold plein air frames or even an ornate gold. It too has a 3-D effect because of the thick, chunky paint I love to apply like rich butter.
I'm getting ready to go to France and the Cottwalds (England) where I hope to see some beautiful gardens! I'm also ready for warm weather so I think I was just in the mood for a Sunflower landscape!

Provence Sunflowers in Sunshine

Title: Provence Sunflowers in Sunshine
Size: 16 x 20
Medium: oil on stretched canvas
See on my eBay auction tonight at a very low price...and no reserve!
THE PAINTING:
This piece has many layers of cad yellows, and lemon yellows and really has a warm feel. The painting is layered thicker in the forground with warm colors so the cooler background colors are set back for depth and added dimension. It finally stopped snowing here and hopefully we'll see some of this sunny weather soon!!!
Art thoughts: Remember when selecting a frame, if the painting has mainly warm colors choose a warmer frame like gold, dark gold or brown. If it has cooler colors (blues, lavenders, winsor green tones) choose a cool frame like silver or black. Black can sometimes work well with warm colors too. This painting looks great with gold, dark gold or black.

Provence Sunflowers

Title: Provence Sunflowers
Size: 16 x 20
Medium: Oil on stretched canvas
ABOUT THE PAINTING:
Contact me for purchase info or see auction.
It's been so very very cold here that I really felt like painting some sunshine and it doesn't get any warmer than sunflowers with their faces up to the warm, blue sky in Provence. This painting has many, many layers of rich oils. Each petal has at least 3 colors of gold and every inch of this painting has interesting texture and color. Hope you enjoy and it warms you up a bit!
