"Two roads diverged in a wood,
 and I---
Took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference."
~Robert Frost
Really I do love painting a moody rainy scene. Has a magical quality about it that always makes me smile It also brings to mind this Robert Frost quote.
I point out the loud pop of her red dress against the quiet, calm greys as one of my favorite things to do is play bold colors off against subtle ones.
Hope you enjoy!

The Show Off - Original oil peacock painting by Karen Tarlton

12x24
The Show Off
Oil

He looks like he's ready to strut so I like my snazzy new title.
Used a lot of my favorite teal on this brand new peacock.
This one is brand new and almost dry! Super thick paint and vivid expressive color.

Original oil painting Owl palette knife fine art by Karen

 Whoooo Are You
16x20
Oil
Almost dry...listing soon
Close up of the eye

Just started painting some owls at the request of my Chi Omega daughter who goes to UC Berkeley.
I'm having more fun with them then I originally thought I would.
Owls lend themselves to the palette knife.

Original oil painting Sandcastles by Karen Tarlton

Sandcastles
12x12
Oil

I'm thinking of beaches and beach memories, which always involve our daughters.
I love how children are care free and enchanted with something as simple as wet gloppy sand. They can take the muck and make it into something beautiful and enjoy the whole process.
Yep....I was also talking about me.  ;)

Beach Babes with Bucket by Karen Tarlton

11x14
Beach Babes with Bucket
Oil
We're gearing up for a big move! Our last move for awhile and we're heading to the beach in Southern California.   In this painting I'm remembering the last time we lived there, 15 years or so ago, when our daughters were young.
Happy memories and  more to come!

Provence Poppies, Sunflowers and Lavender
12x16
Oil

Three of my favorite flowers combined into one lovely landscape.
I can't wait to start a new garden. There are so many flowers I want to plant and watch mature.
France is an always inspiring palette of color.
Hopefully this brings a bit of sunshine and joy!
