Original palette knife painting Blue Iris Flowers by Karen Tarlton

Blue Iris
A garden inspired palette knife work. Blooming with golden rays of sunshine peeking through. Joy!!

Life feels so rushed lately.....need more hours in the day.
It's important to remember
You can, by simply closing your eyes, leave home without ever leaving the room,
You can feel the sun on your face and the cool wind in your hair

Breathe deep and imagine all the scents; perfumed roses, lavender and the sound of bees buzzing.
You don't have to run too fast
You don't have to leave for a moment.

Night Love - Original oil palette knife painting by Karen Tarlton

Night Love
This little oil is part of a new Night series.  Still wet but will be dry by next week with plenty of time to ship for Valentine's Day. A little bit of colorful romance.
As I get older and wiser, and more sentimental, I realize that finding a soul mate is a wonderful thing. I am so blessed because my husband of 28 years is my best friend and my joy.  I think I paint many romance scenes like this around this time of year as an expression of that feeling, and I hope it spreads!

Original oil Peacock palette knife painting by Karen Tarlton fine art

Luminous Peacock
A lovely and showy bird and as decorative birds go, he is my favorite! Whimsical, expressive color in thick, chunky oil.

Paris Romance by Karen Tarlton

Paris Romance

I haven't painted Paris in awhile and I've missed it! I guess because Valentine's Day is around the corner, and because Paris is one the most romantic cities in the world, I had to paint it! In my mind it is always reflective and glowing and flowers are around every corner.

Harbor Boats at Sunrise

Harbor Boats at Sunrise

We took our daughter to the airport today. Winter break is over and back to college she went. It was very hard to let her go.  Set her off like a ship at sea!
This painting makes me feel at peace. I'm all at once calm. It is my hope that this painting brings inspiration and a sense of joy to you as well.
“There is one thing one has to have: either a soul that is cheerful by nature, or a soul made cheerful by work, love, art, and knowledge.”

Birds and Blooms - Original oil painting by Karen Tarlton

Pretty blues, silvery teals and soft greens. The paint is very thick in most places. I used many tubes of oil! I love it though....like sculpture on the canvas the birds and blooms seem to float in a sea of soft color.
"I would like to paint the way a bird sings." Claude Monet

Faboulous Peacock original oil painting by Karen Tarlton

Thick impasto style on this lovely bird. I like this long canvas for this painting. At 12" wide it fits in many small spaces and yet makes quite a statement with bold color and texture. Lots of fun!

Original oil painting Downhill Ski Racer palette knife fine art

Downhill Ski Race
Love to paint movement and motion! Huge drags of thick oil paint! I actually used a larger knife then usual on this one and painted from my imagination and memory of my husband as a young man. I used to love to watch him race! Like a wonderful dance he would gracefully fly down the mountain!
