Art Train Reception

The Art Train was a success!  We loaded at least 150 people on the Nevada State Railroad Historic train to shop for art to benefit the High School students of Nevada Scholarship Fund for the arts. We cruised along for a desert tour and watched the sunset, while drinking wine and enjoying the sites.  Just wonderful!

My silent auction item "The Power of Three" went to this lovely couple....great bidders!
I was delighted to take part and hope to participate next year as well!

Hydrangeas by Karen Tarlton

THIS PAINTING IS SOLD!

Hydrangeas
20x24
Oil

One of my favorite flowers! There are so many beautiful almost irridecent colors in this flower that it is perfect to paint. I love how it changes color as the summer progresses. My 30 year old plant in Arlington VA changes from pink to blue and the blooms are the size of cabbages!
Lots of rich thick oil on this for added texture!

Karen Tarlton Original oil painting Sunlit Meadow Palette knife art

Sunlit Meadow
20x24
Oil

I am very pleased with this one.  I have an art show coming up and have been painting as many of my favorite type of landscapes as possible in the last few weeks.  this particular painting might be a bit large for the show so I'll need to work on a few smaller paintings!

The art show is in Boulder City on a real train!  It's called the art train and the proceeds are to benefit the Silver Sage Foundation for high school students in the Visual arts!

Karen Tarlton Original oil painting Big Sur California

SOLD
Large 24x30

I love this painting and love this place!  The iceplant was in full bloom when I visited a few weeks ago and I took full advantage!  Beautiful cliffs and the sound of surf call to be painted and so I painted it large and rich in texture!

Just watched the news tonight and although I'm sitting here in dry as a bone Vegas....my thoughts are with all my friends in the South along that raging Mississippi!  God bless!

Karen Tarlton Original oil painting - Beach Baby - impasto palette knife oil

11x14
Oil
SOLD

I'm feeling nostalgic this Mother's Day eve.   My girls are all grown up....18 and 16  and I don't know whether to cry for joy for what wonderful young women they have become, or sob in sadness for the fact that they are young women and not my little babies anymore.

I'm sure I'm not the only mother with this story and these empty nest feelings.  Our oldest is off to college in a few months.  So this is the long winded inspiration for my new series of Summer beach baby paintings!  Makes me happy to paint these and I'm hoping they make someone else smile too.  Many more in the works, but this is one of my favorites!!

Happy Mother's Day!

Monterey trip and Mike's Big Sur Marathon

Mike just finished the Big Sur Marathon in 3 hours and 39 minutes!  It was 2700 feet of vertical too, but that wasn't enough so we rented bikes and rode around the coast!  It was a perfect day today!
I'm surrounded by beauty and so inspired!  This iceplant is in full bloom all along the cliffs of Monterey and is truly spectacular so I had to paint a little pochade while Mike took a little nap on the beach!  He deserved it!
I'll paint this scene larger when I get back to my studio!  And many more beautiful beach scenes that are waiting in my head to be painted!!!! I can't wait!
