Flying High Downhill Skier

Title: Flying High Downhill Skier
Size: 16 x 20
Medium: oil on stretched canvas
Available for purchase!
"The person who says it can't be done should not interrupt the person doing it."--Chinese proverb
Winter is on the way and this painting makes a wonderful gift for the lover of the slopes. With powder flying and the wind swirling, the skier soars! I love to paint action and movement! Rather than focusing on minute details I generate movement and energy with repetitive drags and swipes of color, layering them in different directions, developing interesting textures and rich luminous colors. He does seem to fly doesn't he?

Water Lily Reflections

I love this water lily pond painting! It's still wet, but in a week or so it will be dry enough to ship. I don't know if you can find him, but there is a frog in this pond...mid right section. There is a lot of paint and fantastic broken color and texture from at least 5 layers of oil. It's even more fun to look at, and touch, in person.
Large oil on stretched canvas: 24 x 30
Halloween is on it's way and I'm feeling a chill in the air. I love this time of year, anywhere we live in the country it's a greats time of year! I bought 3 large cosco bags of candy....I hope we get some trick or treaters so I don't have to eat it all!

Sunset in Paradise

Title: Sunset in Paradise
Size: 20 x 24
Medium: oil on stretched canvas
SOLD
Here's another brand new painting that's still wet! One of my favorite tropical inspired paintings from memories of my childhood and youth. I actually lived in American Samoa for a couple years when I was a teenager, where I learned to scuba dive.
I dove at least 3 days a week while living there. I've been diving all over the world since...Hawaii, Tahiti, Fiji, Honduras and the Caribean, to name a few, and all of those places sort of merge in my mind.
So many beautiful beaches and spectacular oceans. Now, when I want to travel back to a beach, I just paint it and in doing so revisit for the time it takes to complete. This painting took awhile, and has several layers of paint, which I let dry imbetween so it glows with luminous glazes of color. I hope you enjoy!

" I will prepare and someday my chance will come." --Abraham Lincoln
I love this painting! I had a great week painting and have to say that these are some of my favorites lately. I am a big believer in hard work and dedication pays off and always preach this to our kids. I think when kids have parents that work hard and love well they grow up to be alright. No matter what the task, if a person is committed to doing it well, with proper drive and determination, I believe success is inevitable.
A little luck never hurts either.....
Thanks for checking in and have a great weekend!

Hydrangeas

Our house in Virginia was built in the 1950's and I believe this beautiful old Hydrangea bush was planted then. It is wonderful to watch the blooms turn from pink to a lovely greenish blue, which is my favorite. I love the texture and fullness of this flower, so much fun to arrange and paint.

Title: Autumn Color
Size: 20 x 24
Medium: oil on stretched canvas
"Painting is poetry that is seen rather than felt, and poetry is painting that is felt rather than seen."--Leonardo Da Vinci
I paint almost every day and loose myself in time. Today I painted from 7am until 5pm and I didn't intend to paint so long at all. Before I know it the day is gone and I actually have to force myself to break. I guess I like my job! This is one of the reasons I need a dog....Maggie tells me when it's time to go for a run and time for a snack!!!
I've been painting thick and textured fall scenes lately...I just love rich colors. And since I've been selling all my favorite paintings lately, my walls are looking empty and I need to fill them with my forever rotating gallery of works! I hope this painting makes you smile!

Spring Mama Bird

Title: Spring Mama Bird
Size: 16 x 20
Medium: oil on stretched canvas
SOLD
"Every artist dips his brush into his own soul, and paints his own nature into his pictures." --Henry Ward Beecher
About this painting:
This painting has great color harmony and extra thick texture. The various textural grey tones makes a great background color for the creamy colored flowers and red and blue bird. The analogous, more neutral colors set up the intense colors very well, making them glow, thus creating a sense of mood and drama.
I hope you enjoy this bit of Spring!

Autumn Sunset Glow

Title: Autumn Sunset Glow
Size: 24 x 30
Medium: oil on stretched canvas
available for purchase by check or paypal but won't be dry until about 10/10/10
I painted this one from my imagination, as I often do. I've seen so many gorgeous skies in my life and, I see these beautiful images in my head all the time. This is one of the reasons I think, I have to paint everyday....to unclutter my mind.
Today I went on antibiotics and am starting to feel alive again. Yesterday I just slept most of the day and got worse and worse. Once or twice a year my kids come home with little colds and I get it and get sick as a dog...no recovery in site until I start antibiotics. Thanks god for those 5 little pills. Some how in my foggy, feverish haze, I managed to paint this grand landscape and I like how I paint when I have a fever! I love the pops of cad red against the warm greens and golden sunset skies......makes me smile. I hope you enjoy it as well!

New Orleans French Quarter Jazz

Title: New Orleans French Quarter Jazz
Size: 20 x 24
Medium: oil on stretched canvas
SOLD
I was in a New Orleans mood for sure when I painted this one. It glows with cadmium reds and yellows and I was heavy handed with the oils. I mix my own black with combinations of Alizarin Crimson, winsor green and pthalo blue. Transparent colors are great to work with. It's one of my favorite New Orleans paintings to date! It's my intention that the viewer interpret the scene, fill in the blanks and invent an imaginary story line for this scene.....I hope it speaks to you.

"The job of the artist is always to deepen the mystery." ---Francis Bacon
I absolutely love Italy and am thinking about going again, maybe next year. If you have never been to Venice, it must be on your bucket list. It is the most mysterious and magical city I have ever seen. The canals are mesmerizing and beautiful, and the fact that the whole city is literally floating in the lagoon is really unbelievable. I have to paint my favorite memories in order to relive them....so here is a favorite in oils that will last for hundreds of year....like the city itself!

"Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep."--Scott Adams
This one is good because it is so true. If often think some of my favorite works were produced by happy accidents. I often love starting with a complete abstract work and then paint it into something wonderful. I love making lemonaid from a juicy lemon! All you need is a little sugar! Thanks for checking in!

Rainy Romance

Title: Rainy Romance
Size: 12 x 16
Medium: oil on stretched canvas
SOLD
"There is no remedy for love but to love more." -- Henry David Thoreeau
I want to thank you all once again for all the great feedback and nice emails you send. It means more than I can say to know my hard work has been meaningful to you, and I appreciate the wonderful comments!
I'm talking to my daughter right now about "patience" so it's on my mind. Since we are a military family and move every couple years, it is getting hard on our highschool daughters. Having a best friend is important to girls, and finding that special person can be tough! We've only been here in Vegas a few months and we really miss our best friends from Virginia!
If you have a special person in your life hold on to him and treasure him or her!
